bootcamp assessment #2

i skipped posting on thursday. thursday sucked. thursday did not feel good. that's all i have to say about thursday.

not only was today assessment #2 at bootcamp, today was also sb's birfday. so a big happy birfday to sb!

now, onto the assessment...

somehow, i didn't improve very much over the first assessment except for the run. here's how it went down:
  • push-ups: 23 (last time 21 or 23 - couldn't remember, not a very good improvement at all)
  • sit-ups: 35 (last time 36 - buh)
  • 1-mile run: 8:48 (last time 10:06 - pretty pleased)
clearly i need to step up the upper body work. i'm glad the running is improving because really, at the core of this is my desire to get back into decent running shape (and lose some weight of course).

i guess we'll see how the next month goes...

piggy-back rides and leap frogs

when i was a little girl, i would beg my dad to give me piggy-back rides. at some point, i grew out of that, and the piggy-back rides were just a distant memory.

little did i know, i'd be riding on the back of some poor girl during bootcamp tonight and vice versa.

oh, and did i mention we rode each other (yeah, i know how that sounds) up a pretty sizable hill?

yeah. sweet.

add in leap frogs, chariots of fire (my partner holding on to the back of my shirt while i ran up the hill), pushing my partner up the hill and just some good old fashioned sprints, this hill workout was insanity - but a good kind of insanity. i felt really great actually. don't get me wrong - my legs still burned like hell, and i still felt like i might puke by the last run up the hill, but overall it was a great workout.

we also did some strength drills to start the workout, which wasn't so bad. the major had a video camera with him tonight, and he was filming us. i'm not sure i want to know what it's for.

bootcamp hurts.

those are my knees. they're bruised. they're swollen. and they fucking hurt. and that was just from the workout earlier tonight. i can't wait to see what they look like tomorrow morning.

what the bloody hell did i get us into?

monday, we did a circuit workout, which was rough, but bearable.

today, we did the "hot 100." all upper body exercises - i'd say around six different exercises total. we were to do 10 reps of each (but 10 actually means 20 because we do two reps in one count) with really no rest in between each set. and we were supposed to make it to 100 total reps for each exercise (200 in reality), but she stopped us at 70 (140).

most of the exercises were some form of push up, which meant i was on my knees most of the time because i'm not strong enough to do real man ones. and of course we were in a field with the hardest surface EVER.

thank god tomorrow is thursday. one last day of pain and then the weekend to recuperate.

day 5

today was strength at bootcamp, which i missed last week. the workout was rough, but i gotta say, the freakin "warm-up" run was actually what killed me. it's ridiculous. i feel like a jackass because i'm breathing like a 700 lb man trying to walk up a flight of stairs. not good. i'm hoping that stops soon.

i'm guessing tomorrow is endurance. my legs still hurt from speed on monday. we'll see how tomorrow goes.

Bootcamp Days 2, 3 and 4

day 2:
missed it because of class.

day 3:
owwwwwwww.

day 4:
owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

for the love of god, i haven't worked this hard since high school track. i just wish i had that same body, strength, speed and endurance i had back then.

day 3 consisted of "endurance" on the beach - meaning, run in circles in the sand for an undisclosed amount of time. it was hot and humid, and i thought i might puke. i felt like my feet were being swallowed every time i stepped down.

day 4, which was today, was all about speed. we ran to an empty parking lot where the drill instructor set up three cones in a line with the furthest about 100 yards away. i never thought my sprinting days would ever come in handy ever again, but they did today. the second i saw those cones, i knew we'd be doing some sort of ladder. sure enough, i was right. 10 to the closest one, 6 to the mid and 3 to the furthest, jogging back in between each one. also, between each set, we had to do more core/leg/back work.

the funniest part about it--i think i dread the "warm-up" and "cool-down" runs more than the actual workouts. those bitches are faster than what i normally run.

to sb, cs and tw: i sincerely apologize for the pain i've caused by suggesting bootcamp. just know that we will definitely be hott by august. or else, drinks are on me.

Bulldog Bootcamp Day 1

today was the first day of bulldog bootcamp. for the next three months, three days a week, sb and i will finally get our asses back into shape.

today was the first assessment test. allow me to summarize the results of this test:

i have no fitness.

none.

ok, so here are the details:
  • push-ups in a minute: 21 (surprising, but honestly i can't remember if it's 21 or 23...i was too tired by the end...they have the official results so i'll find out eventually)
  • sit-ups in a minute: 36 (also surprising)
  • 1 mile run: 10:06 (slow and not surprising)
the next session is wednesday, but i have class so i'll be missing it. not sure if that's a good or bad thing. all i know is that tomorrow my arms might fall off and my chest might explode - all in the name of getting back into my size 4 jeans. woohoo!
