sucktastic

i have run 5 miles this week. 5 miles. i'm not sure if i'm going to run again until the race on sunday. my stupid achilles tendon sucks. i'm trying to keep things in perspective because poor ks is on the verge of another stress fracture in her femur, and boston is only two weeks away.

we must be getting too old for this shit.

texA$$

so i couldn't post this past week because i was in texA$$ on business. ran somewhere between 3 and 3.5 miles on wednesday, 4 miles on thursday and just over 5 miles yesterday.

didn't run today. my right leg still hurts, and it's driving me crazy. i've been icing and stretching...stretching and icing. guess i should be careful this week so that i can actually run the race next sunday. i'd like to finish under 50, but i guess at this point, i'll be glad just to finish.

t-7 days. saddle up, cowboys. it's go time.

7.5 miles

first song on my shuffle: "everybody" sister hazel

well, that was interesting. i decided to go slower today (probably around 10 minute pace) so that i could just enjoy the run and the weather. plus, i read some article in runner's world about an experiment they did to see who was in better shape - those who ran fast or those who ran long and slow. i think long and slow ended up fairing well, so i figure i'll try it for my training runs that aren't speed workouts.

anyhow, all was going well up until about mile 5 when i got this horrendous pain on the right side of my right leg, just above my achilles tendon. whenever i would step a certain way, it felt like someone was stabbing that area. i stopped and stretched for a couple of minutes and started running again (probably not the best idea). it came and went, but i really didn't want to cut the run short. stupid? yes. especially since my race is two weeks away.

i think i was trying to compensate for the fact that i missed a workout this past week. i told myself i would go and do cross training on friday, but yeah. that never happened. instead, jc and i went to dinner. sigh. food is my kryptonite.

tomorrow: rest day
mileage for the week: 18 miles

3/18/06 - 5 miles

first song on my shuffle: "jump around" house of pain

had to run quickly so that i could go to stanley's with jc and her man, mc. it was an ok run. nothing too good but nothing too bad either. just a run.
i somehow lost my gloves the night before at dave and busters, which made for a cold first mile.

however, the brunch was glorious as always. i don't know what they put in their fried chicken, but damn it's good.

tomorrow: 7.5 miles

5.5 miles/tempo

first song on my shuffle: "down with the sickness" disturbed

ok, so i didn't run yesterday like i was supposed to. how am i supposed to turn down half price martinis and good conversation?

today was great though. i did a 25 minute tempo run with a 1.5 mile warmup and about a mile cooldown. i think i was doing 8 minute pace, which makes me really happy. i'm not sure how i lasted for 25 minutes...maybe it was all the smiling faces. i swear there were more happy runners today than usual. i love it.

tomorrow: umm...burgers 'n' beer?

7 miles

first song on my shuffle: "two princes" spin doctors

that better have been 7 miles. i ran for 1 hour and 10 minutes. if that wasn't 7 miles, i will not be pleased.

felt pretty good the entire time today. my legs are tired now, but i guess that's a good thing. it was really windy again (surprise, surprise). not as nice of a day as yesterday, but relatively warm nonetheless.

i decided to reward myself with chipotle. yum.

tomorrow: rest day

total mileage for the week: 21.6 miles

4.6 miles?

it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! 60 degrees, sunny and windy. very windy. although the weather was phenomenal, i felt like shit today. i told sb it has something to do with running with him. not sure what that something is, but i had to blame someone ;-)

no, really, it's just me. days like this worry me. i hate feeling like crap during runs. i was just sluggish and out of breath the entire time. sigh.

tomorrow: 7 miles

2 sloppy miles

ran with sb yesterday. we were supposed to go 5, but then we decided to go 3 and get a beer. 3 turned into 2, thanks to the crazy wind and rain. it went from a fun run to a wet t-shirt and pants contest. hott.

things i learned from that run:

1) running downtown blows with all the people and the stop lights
2) bring extra clothes for emergencies/spontaneous runs
3) the wet look is NOT my style
4) there's always room for jell-o

today was a rest day. tomorrow is 5 miles.

5 miles/tempo

first song on my shuffle: i have no freakin' idea.

well, i was supposed to tempo for 20 minutes today, but that didn't happen. i ran my 1.5 mile warm up in 14:30. then, my tempo started. i was supposed to run 9 minute miles, but somehow my first mile was 7:48...and so was the second. i made it another minute before i couldn't "tempo" anymore and just decided to start my cool down.

i really need to learn how to pace.

on a bright note, i covered those 5 miles in under 45 minutes. feeling pretty good about that.

tomorrow: 3 or 5 mile fun run (depending on how my legs feel in the morning)

3 miles

first song on my shuffle: "stickshifts and safetybelts" cake (again)

another great run. it would've felt better if it weren't for the fact that my belly was full of cheesesteak and french fries. yum.

lifted upper body today too. lots of weirdos at the gym. just tried to focus and block them out.

tomorrow: 20 minute tempo

5 miles

first song on my shuffle: "beautiful disaster" kelly clarkson (yeah, that's right. i listen to kelly clarkson.)

fantastic run today. the sun was shining and there were a ton of people on the roads. i think i was going around 9:30 pace, which makes me happy.

more good news: i found that my mind was wandering the whole time i was running - so much so that i almost tripped over a few potholes. why is this good news? because i wasn't thinking about running or how many miles i had left. i just let myself think about other things. it's all about winning the small battles at this point.

tomorrow: 6.5 miles

3 miles

first song on my shuffle: i have no idea. for some reason, the only song i remember from the entire run is "jesus walks" by kanye west.

ran on the indoor track at the gym tonight. apparently i was only running 9 minute miles, but it felt like crap. weird. i don't know what's going on with that. it felt much faster...and harder.

on a positive note, i got in a good upper body lift tonight. can't lose those guns that jw has been helping me build.

tomorrow: rest day

tempo

first song on my shuffle: "life got in the way" sister hazel

i took today off because...well...because i felt like it.

yesterday, i did a 15 minute tempo run with a 1.5 mile warm up and cool down. it felt really great. my legs weren't pleased with the fact that i ran during lunch and then had to sit at a desk for the next 4 hours, but what can ya do?

i'm guessing yesterday's total was around just under 5 miles, but it's hard to say.

tomorrow: 3 miles
