9 miles

happy birthday, sb!

switched training groups for today's run - we went with the 12 minute group at 6 a.m. instead of 6:30. it was great! will, the pace group leader, was totally on top of things - kept us at a decent pace and stayed back waiting for some of the stragglers while letting the rest of us go ahead. he's great. the rest of the group is really nice, too. however, mark's ark will always be the best.

felt awesome today. it was really cool, and i think that had a lot to do with it. i do not deal well with the heat.

leg is holding up ok for now. just taking everything day-by-day at this point...

4 miles

ok, so i missed cross training and the run on tuesday because of my business trip to vegas. i have got to stop missing so many days...

anyway, i ran home from work today with sb. it was so hot and humid during the day, i didn't think i'd make it 4 miles. luckily, it started raining just before we got on the roads so it was great running weather. the rain cooled us off, the skies were overcast, there was a slight breeze - it was great.

the run would've been great except for the fact that both sb and i felt like we were going to puke the entire time. no more shitty food during lunch if we're running home from work - not enough time to digest the grease apparently.

my legs also didn't feel very good. my left hip started hurting a lot and my right quad (shudder) was hurting too. sigh. hopefully it was just a crappy day.

5 miles

that sucked. i have no idea what was wrong, but man, my legs felt like dead weight. ks was in town (woohoo!), so she joined sb and me on our run. we decided to skip the training group run and just go on our own a little later in the morning. luckily, it was cool and cloudy so we didn't get in trouble with the heat.

i'll be in vegas on business for the next few days so we'll see if i get any cross training in.

3 miles

ok, so i didn't run yesterday. had some serious stomach issues. woof.

ran 3 miles today. felt pretty great actually. it was gorgeous outside - warm but with a nice cool breeze. plus, sb does a good job of keeping me entertained while we run.

tomorrow: rest

2.99 miles

i have a feeling sb isn't going to want to run with me anymore.

7 miles

did 7 miles with the cara marathon training group today. i'm not sure if it's because i'm in the slowest pace group now or what, but it seems like people aren't taking this whole training thing very seriously. while i'm certainly not as intense about it as i was last year, i am definitely just as dedicated.

there were two girls running behind sb and me - one who talked about how she got sloshed the night before with her dad and the other who talked about how she didn't run at all last week.

on top of that, we kept stopping for unnecessarily long water/bathroom breaks. it was unnecessary because the people who needed to stop acted like they had all day to just dick around. they'd just mosey on back from the bathroom like there weren't 10 other people waiting to get back on the road. what should've taken less than an hour and a half took two hours.

after being at a water stop for about 5 minutes, sb and i finally couldn't take it anymore and left without the group. does that make us the assholes of the day? probably. but i tell ya what - i didn't pay $100 to condition my body to come to a complete stop for 5 minutes every 1.5 miles. i'd like to finish the marathon before they close the course.

3 miles

didn't have a first song on the shuffle because i didn't bring my shuffle - ran with sb.

the 3 miles went fine. the first half always hurts a lot worse than the second half. guess that's a good thing because i'd rather run negative splits anyway.

apparently some couple laughed at me as i made a beeline for the sprinklers and ran through them. it was fuckin' hot, man. give a sweaty girl a break.

oh, and dr. mike said i didn't have to come to pt anymore. he said because i'm doing so well, he thinks i'm ready to be on my own as long as i promise to do my exercises and stretching at home. he also said i'm much stronger, but my right leg is still weaker than my left leg and my core needs a lot of work. noted.

tomorrow: rest
saturday: 7 miles

and the training begins...

first song on the shuffle: the man who would be santa - vertical horizon

ok, well, i guess the training began last week. i've just been really bad about updating the blog.

so, last week i ran 3 on tuesday, 3 on wednesday, biked on thursday and friday, ran 6 miles with the cara marathon training group on saturday and missed yesterday due to a crazy travel schedule and an early birthday celebration.

as far as cara marathon training, i decided to run with the 12 minute pace group to make sure that a) i could actually complete 6 miles at one time and b) not re-injure myself.

it's definitely a different feeling from last year. i don't feel as serious about all of it (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). also, the group i'm in is very different from last year. one person would stop and walk periodically, another guy decided to tell the world how slow the group was (see sb's commentary on him for more details). i miss mark's ark.

anyway, i'll try to be better about actually updating my blog so that i can keep track of myself. today i went 3.1 miles at about 11 minute pace. felt pretty good - it was warm and very windy on the way back home, but didn't feel bad at all.

tomorrow: 3 miles
